The Premier League is England’s top-tier domestic competition, and one of the richest and most strongly supported football leagues in the world. The Premiership is contested from August to May each year by the 20 strongest clubs in England, with not only the league title, but also places in European competition up for grabs.

A permanent fixture in the top three of the UEFA league rankings, the Premier League is effectively run as a booming business, with the 20 member clubs benefiting as league shareholders. Much of the revenue for the Premier League is generated by broadcast deals, and the enormous amounts of money paid into the coffers of members clubs allows them to procure some of the finest footballing talent on the planet.

Premier League Format
Each club goes head-to-head with all of the others on two occasions – one at home and the other away; for a grand total of 38 games per season for each club. Points are awarded per fixture with a win garnering 3 points and a draw a single point. The team with the most points are the end of the campaign, is crowned Premier League champion.

In the event that two or more teams to end up with the same points tally at the conclusion of the season, goal difference and goals scored are used to determine the title winner. However, if there is a tie in points for the Championship itself, or in determining relegation or qualification into other tournaments, a play-off at a neutral venue is used to establish the league champion.

Relegation and Promotion
At the end of the season, the three clubs languishing at the bottom of the table are relegated to the Football League Championship. The top four teams in the Premier League at the conclusion of the season secure places in the Champions League for the following season, while the 5th placed team qualifies for the UEFA Europa League.
